9 to 4: 133.3 miles Hwy 101 Stopped at Mad River Rapids RV Park Another cloudy and foggy day going down the coast. Interestingly, the traffic reduced dramatically when we hit California. We made a stop in Crescent City and checked out a farmer's market and the coastline before walking out to Battery Point Lighthouse through a major obstacle course - it was low tide - at high tide the lighthouse is not accessible but completely surrounded with water. This is a working lighthouse and a private residence We made our traditional stop at the Trees of Mystery - don't know why. We've stopped there about 20 times, never bought anything and never took the tour; we just always stop and walk through the shop. Crazy! Paul Bunyan and Blue An obligatory stop is in Trinidad where we always have fish and chips at the harbor. It's just a tiny harbor but very picturesque, although today was overcast so not the same as usual. ...

9 am to 1 pm: 137.5 miles Hwy 395 to Hwy 20 Stopped at Burns RV Park Hwy 395 between Lakeview and the end of Lake Albert was absolutely spectacular! It's a shame that the haze and smoke from the California fires meant that any photos taken could not do the scenery justice. Just the same, it was striking with the mountains on one side and the lake on the other. Incredibly beautiful. We noticed that the mileposts all had a D after the number and had to find out what that was all about. This is the explanation. "Travelers on U.S. 395 might see the letter “B”, “C”, “D” or “E” after the mile number. The letters are there to help emergency responders and ODOT crews identify specific highway sections when a mile post number is given as the location of a crash, ...
