9 to 4:  181.7 miles
Hwy 101 to Hwy 1 to Hwy 101.
Stopped at Best Western Salinas Monterey


Interesting day.  Originally we were going to take highway 12 east to the I-5 but then discovered that a large section of highway 12 was closed and we would have to take a roundabout way to the I-5.  So Plan B was Highway 101 south and then onto Highway 1 down the coast.  We had not actually taken Highway 1 through the San Francisco area and south to the Monterey Peninsula.

Once we got through the Bay area mess of traffic and people it was one beach after another the rest of the day.  We were amazed at the amount of traffic on the road plus cars and people at each beach.  It was very foggy and very cold so why would anyone be going to the beach, never mind the huge numbers of people?  We finally decided that these people must have said to themselves, "it's summer dammit, we're going to the beach!"

So barring any major upset, we should be home tomorrow.  It will be interesting to see how many miles we have done on this trip as well as how many gallons of gas we used!
